Holy Mass

We are blessed to be able to celebrate Holy Mass 7 times per week at the St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church, at 12:15pm every weekday, and 11am and 7pm on Sundays.

    Here's a breakdown of regular weekday events at Newman: 
     
    Mondays:
     
    Catechesis on the Beatitudes with Fr. Cris Graas, Chaplain at Ernescliff College at 1 PM. Fr. Cris will have a look at what Christ surprisingly presents as conditions to be happy. Christian happiness thus offers a challenge, because it goes against man's natural expectations of a happy life. What does Jesus mean? And what consequences are there for our Christian life?
     
    Tuesdays:
     
    Soup and Bagel Lunch at 1 PM. Join us for the cheapest and most filling meal on campus. For $3 you get a bowl of delicious soup, a bagel, a warm beverage and company no money can buy! 
     
    Men's Faith Formation Group at 4:15 PM. Are you a man who would like to grow more in your relationship with God with other men? Join the men's formation group where we will meet and talk about different aspects of living a virtuous life as a man of God. 
     
    Pray and Play at 7:30 PM. Join us for an hour of Eucharistic Adoration followed by boardgames, video games, baked goodness and good fun. Come for Pray or come for Play or come for Pray and Play! 
     
    Wednesdays:
     
    Women's Faith Formation Group at 4:15 PM. Are you a woman who would like to grow more in your relationship with God with other women? Join the women's formation group where we will meet and talk about different aspects of living a virtuous life as a woman of God. 
     
    Thursdays:
     
    Catechesis on Marriage and Family at 1:00 PM. Would you like to learn more about what the  Church's teaching on Family and Married Life? Professor Elmar Kremer of the Philosophy Department will lead a series of catechism meetings on Marriage and Family Life.

  • Mission Trip to Jamaica

    Friday, February 13, 2015 - 10:30am to Friday, February 20, 2015 - 8:30pm

    Do you have any plans for reading week in February? Newman Centre Catholic Chaplaincy is organizing a mission trip to Kingston, Jamaica to work with the Missionaries of the Poor. 

    When: February 13th - 20th, 2015 with the deadline for applications being November 14, 2014

    What: Assisting the Brothers with caring for the poor at their orphanage and their homes for the mentally and physically challenged. In addition to pastoral care, cleaning, feeding people, administrative tasks and other duties as needed will be expected. 

    Where: Kingston, Jamaica!

    Cost: $575: $175 non-refundable deposit to secure your spot along with your application and the remaining $400 by 5pm on Friday, January 9th, 2015. 

    Applications are available in the Chaplaincy Office of the Newman Centre. 

    Apply now because we only have 20 spots available! 

    First priority will be given to UofT St. George Students. Depending on numbers, applications will be made available to students from other universities.

  • Cheapest Lunch on Campus!

    Every Tuesday until classes end in December, we'll be serving a bagel and soup for the very low price of only $3! Bagel lunch starts at 12:45 pm, and will continue until 2:30 pm, or whenever we run out of food. 

    It's a great way to get to know others on campus, as well as feed yourself something healthy for not a lot of money. Want more info? Contact us!

  • Pray and Play

    Looking for some time with Jesus and/or some summer fun with others? 
     
    Pray and Play happens each Tuesday evening at Newman until classes end in December! Adoration (with confession available) takes place in the chapel at 7:30pm, and is followed by board games/video games/ fun in the house afterwards at 8:30 pm.

  • Faith and Science Gatherings

    Are you interested in how faith and science can and do reconcile? 

    Join the faith and science group moderated by Kevin Cormier a Jesuit Scholastic studying theology at Regis College in preparation for ordination to the priesthood and a postdoctoral fellow at Mount Sinai Hospital.

  • Diving Deeper Series

    Are you interested is learning more about your faith and rediscovering the joy of living the Gospel? 

     

    Would you like to receive guidance on how to defend the faith and share the love of Christ with others? 

     

    Join us on 1 Saturday a month at Newman Centre starting October 25th where some Faculty members of Regis College will share their knowledge through presentations, discussions and reading.


     

    The first session is on Saturday, October 25th from 10:30 am - 2 pm. The topic will be, "What is a human person?" presented by Sr. Gill Goulding, CJ. Free lunch will be provided.

  • Faith and Reason Lecture Series

    This academic year Newman Centre will host a series of lectures titled the Faith and Reason Lecture Series. 
     
    Our first Lecture was very successful! Thank you those of you who could make it! If you missed it, not to worry click here to view some pictures of the event and click here to listen to an audio podcast of the lecture. 
     
    Our next lecture is co-organized with the Canadian Catholic Bioethics institute. It is titled"Cardinal Virtues and Bioethics" delivered by Dr. Moira McQueen, Director of CCBI and also recently appointed by Pope Francis as a member of the International Theological Commission.
     
    The Lecture will take place on Thursday, December 11th at 7:30 pm.
