Upcoming Events

  • Live at Newman and Join Our Student Campus Ministry Team!

    Event Date:
    Monday, February 17, 2014 - 4:00pm

Are you looking to grow in holiness? Are you interested in helping support Newman's ministry efforts to lead people closer to Christ? Applications are now open for our Student Campus Ministry Team!

As a Student Campus Minister, you would live at the Newman Centre for the Summer Term (May to August) or the Regular Term (August 22 to end of April 2016), or both. Our Student Campus Ministers participate in the mission of the Newman Centre in three ways: assisting with Newman's liturgical life on weekdays and Sundays, participating in the common aspects of community life such as meal set-up, and supporting evangelization efforts on campus. Our aim is to help you grow in holiness while living in community and serving others.

Positions are open for Catholic students (either full or part time, excluding those applying for the summer term who may be working full time) between the ages of 18 and 30 who are attending any post-secondary institution in the GTA. Please see the brochure for more information, or contact Erin with any questions you may have, or for an application form.

  • Nominate Our Newman Catholic Students Club for a UTSU Award!

    Event Date:
    Wednesday, November 19, 2014 - 3:03pm

The UTSU Unity Ball Awards are coming up, and we want to recognize the work of our very own Newman Catholic Students Club Executive! Have you appreciated their hard work this year? Take two minutes andclick here to vote for them as your pick for "People's Choice Club"award.

The Club name is Newman Catholic Students Club, and the club email you can list is "chaplaincy@newmantoronto.com".

If you want to recognize them even FURTHER for their work this year, feel free to click here to nominate them for the "Outstanding Club Executive Team Award"!

Here's why we think this amazing team of students ought to be nominated:

This executive team has shown incredible dedication, has worked long hours, and has helped innumerable students to feel connected to community on campus. There are 7 executive members, and every single one of them has shown amazing leadership in helping propel the club in terms of both the wide variety of events they offer (such as Street Patrol, ecumenical activities, prayer activities and social gatherings), and their efforts to involve as many people in club activities as possible. Without their presence on campus, there would have been a huge hole this year for the students that their work supported.

Let's show them how much we appreciate everything that they've done and are doing!!

If you think you would be interested in this great opportunity or have any questions you can e-mail us.

  • Suicide and Depression: Finding Hope in the Dark

    Event Date:
    Thursday, February 26, 2015 - 7:30pm
Have you or a loved one ever struggled with depression and anxiety? Are you unsure of how to support yourself or others when mental illness becomes overwhelming? Dr. Mary Marrocco, a Marriage and Family Therapist with a PhD in Theology, will be with us for an evening entitled, "Suicide and Depression: Finding Hope in the Dark". Mary will speak about suicide and depression, and how to find help and healing for yourself or others. A great night to learn more about mental health during the month of February, which statistically has the highest cases of suicide during the year. The evening begins at 7:30 pm  on Thursday, February 26th in the Oak Room, and will include light refreshments. It is free to attend.

It will also be the kickoff of our collaboration with Mary Marrocco and Nikolaie Atitienei through their organization, St. Macrina Counselling Services. Through this partnership, we are able to offer subsidized counselling rates for those who are part of our community and for whom cost would be a barrier to accessing mental health services. Please feel free to contact Fr. ChrisSonal or Erin if you would like more information about this service, or watch for the posters that will be up in the Newman Centre at the end of the month.
